There are various different methods including putting search wizards, deep links and banners on your site. See some examples here.
Yes, in fact many of our affiliates like this option as it provides more flexibility to control the user experience during the searching process but avoids the hassle of having to build the secure e-commerce pages to process the transaction.
EAN uses Client ID numbers (CID) appended onto the URL to track reservations. When your site is correctly linked to your private label site, your CID will be associated with any reservations made from your site visitors.
We have two different types of hotels in the system: merchant and agency. For merchant hotels (customer pays full amount at time of booking), you will be credited with the commission after their stay.
For agency hotels (customer pays hotel after their stay at check out), you will be credited with your share of the commissions as soon as we collect it from the hotel.
Yes, in fact, our private label template and XML solutions are available in over 30 languages including English, French, German, Spanish, Danish, Finnish, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Italian, Russian, Polish, Portuguese, Czech, Hungarian, Icelandic, Greek, Slovak, Japanese, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Korean, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai and Malay. To change the language on the site, all you have to do is to change the locale parameter in the URL. This will enable you to easily target non-English speaking customers. If you do intend to provide a choice of languages, we would recommend you include a language selection dropdown box in your header.
Our solutions are capable of displaying prices in 200 currencies and we are able to process transactions in 19 major ones including US Dollars, British Pounds, Euro, Japanese Yen, China Yuan, Australian Dollars, Brazil Real, Canadian Dollars, Swiss Francs, Danish Kroner, Hong Kong Dollars, Israel New Sheqel, Korean Won, Mexican Peso, Norwegian Kroner, New Zealand Dollars, Swedish Krona, Singapore Dollars and Russian Rubles.
Yes, we provide XML APIs to search and book hotels, flights and cars.
First you need to become one of our partners through our sign up form in the Affiliate Center, then submit an application for XML access from within the XML Documentation site. We’ll review your application and website for eligibility, work with you on the proper contracts if needed, and notify you of your status once your access is set.
With XML you are able to access our data system, retrieve the content requested and display it to your own webpages dynamically. This gives you the benefit of organizing and stylizing our content in the manner that suits your business instead of linking to our customized template pages. Although EAN's private labeling system gives you flexibility and highly customized branding, the use of XML will allow you full design control and branding of this content.
Pros:
- Greater degree of control over design, content and tracking of your website
- Better for SEO, especially when combined with your own unique content
Cons:
- Requires more development resources and expertise to implement and maintain
- You become responsible for the programming, logic, debugging and monitoring of your site and you will not be able to leverage the development work our team invests in optimizing the template site
We find a good starting point is to build the shopping pages using XML abd then direct your customers to our private label template once they are ready to transact. This provides the flexibility to optimise the design of your site, particularly for search engine marketing, and leverage our secure booking pages to convert the transaction.
We have a dedicated team of experts on hand to help you get your site up and running as quickly as possible. We recommend that you have a look around the Affiliate Center to see if any of the material you need is readily available. If not, you can contact our team through our Contact Us form and they will be happy to answer your questions.
We have 24/7 English speaking customer care agents working around the clock to resolve any problems related to travel bookings.
- What are the benefits of having package rates?
- I am an EAN partner, how can I start using package rates?
- Why am I seeing an error when I send an XML parameter to receive hotel package rates?
- What hotel inventory is available for hotel package rates?
- Can I combine both package rates and standalone (SA) hotel rates with my inventory?
- How will I display package savings to my customers?
- How will package cancellations be processed?
EAN package rates solution enables EAN partners to create competitively priced packages on their sites by combining their own inventory with Expedia hotels that offer reduced package rates - average of 17% of total package value*. This is a very compelling offer for your customers that will increase the overall site conversion and your revenue.
This product is designed for partners who have their own transport inventory which can be bundled with Expedia hotels that offer package savings. A partner needs to request access to XML package rates by contacting their account manager. After the request has been approved by EAN a partner needs to create a new parent CID and forward the details to the account manager. The account manager will advise when the hotel package savings feed is ready to use.For partners that don't have a dedicated account manager please contact us at eanmkt@expedia.com and we’ll advise if the product is available to you.
There are a few reasons why a partner might see an error message: a) a partner has not been set up to use the product; b) a partner is set up for hotel package rates but is not passing the parameter correctly; c) if a partner selects to receive “package rates only” , which may limit the inventory availability.
If you are getting an error message please contact your account manager.
Merchant hotels which Expedia contracts directly have the ability to offer package savings. 60% of all properties sold on Expedia sites* have these reduced rates available when Expedia or its partners choose to bundle the hotel with a flight or other travel product.
A partner can choose to receive standalone hotel rates, package rates or combined rates (SA hotel rate + package rate). You can set up the feed yourself or ask for assistance from your account manager. If you decide to take only hotels with package savings the number of items returned in searches may not be as extensive. However, you may independently filter this package rate feed with a standalone hotel rate feed if you have the technical capabilities.
Please note that your commission will depend on whether you use a standalone hotel rate feed or a package rate.
All pricing using the hotel package rate feed must be opaque. A partner is not allowed to display package rates separately from the total package price (i.e. including flight or other travel component). We will not be passing a package savings value as a separate parameter in the feed.
If a partner doesn’t comply with terms and conditions the package rate feed will be turned off and the partner may be liable for contractual breach.
The flight and hotel components will have to be cancelled separately. A partner has to support cancellations and itinerary changes via their own call centers or online cancellation tools.
EAN Customer Operations team will cancel the hotel component only if the request comes from the partner's contact center.

- Which platform does Smart Cross Sell use?
- How do I get Smart Cross Sell?
- Who qualifies for the cross sell widget?
- What is Smart Cross Sell?
Integrating Smart Cross Sell into an email program requires slightly more work than simply placing it on your site. There are two ways to integrate the widget, either via FTP retrieval or via our Hotel API. For FTP the data points are submitted to an FTP site, the widget is generated based on the data points and can be downloaded from the FTP site. For the API, the data points can be requested via our Hotel API and the inventory for widget will be returned. For both methods, once the content is returned the widget can be populated into an email.
No, that is the beauty of Smart Cross Sell. We wanted to provide a dynamic and targeted solution for customers to add a hotel to their purchase, but without interrupting the airfare purchase, which can be a downside of in-path cross sell. Most customers have a sense of urgency when purchasing airfare, but prefer to shop around, compare prices, and read customer reviews for their hotel purchase. For this reason, and to avoid shopping cart abandonment typical with an in-path solution, EAN’s Smart Cross Sell is integrated into your site post-purchase.
You will need to do two things: create a placeholder on your site for the cross-sell widget to appear, and implement a Javascript tag. EAN will provide you with the Javascript tag, which enables you to pass in relevant data points to EAN which are then used to make customer profiling decisions. You will need to map data collected in your transportation product booking flow to the Javascript tag to pass that data through.
As this is a bespoke design process, timescales may vary. We suggest allowing 2-4 weeks; however it’s important that you work with your Account Manager to get started on your design as early as possible in the process of preparing to implement the Smart Cross Sell.
You will need a Chameleon version of your site in order to implement Cross-Sell. If you are currently using another of EAN’s template products, it’s possible to setup a Chameleon site purely for Smart Cross Sell while continuing to use your existing template solution.
Smart Cross Sell is available to all EAN partners who sell a transportation product such as air or train.
Smart Cross Sell is FREE. We are able to design and build a bespoke cross-sell widget (example below) for our valued airline and transport partners, and it comes at no additional cost as an EAN Affiliate.

Smart Cross Sell uses a combination of the EAN Hotel API v3 and Chameleon. Independent of how your site is integrated, we will be able to provide you with the Smart Cross Sell solution.
Simply contact your account manager, and they will be able to get you set up.
Airlines or air inventory suppliers, such as OTAs. Smart Cross Sell was specifically designed for the needs of these target markets, to effectively add on hotels to already purchased transportation inventory.
Smart Cross Sell is EAN’s new, best-in-class product to offer airlines the ability to promote relevant and targeted hotels to their customers, after the purchase of their airline ticket, in a dynamic cross sell widget. Using dynamic profiles created based on purchase history and Expedia’s powerful sort algorithm, airline customers are shown hotel properties that are specific to their travel needs – or “the perfect match.” EAN works with the partner to build a bespoke widget to the specific needs of the airline, and the airline simply adds it to their website on the confirmation page.

You have the option of transitioning to the new online hotel booking engine, Chameleonor building your site using our new Hotel API. Both are the result of significant investments by EAN and offer unprecedented new opportunities for you to monetize your online traffic through hotel bookings.
The market for a travel platform has changed significantly since the introduction of WWTE 10 years ago. And the way in which our partners build packages has changed significantly too. Many are now building their own packaging solutions, diminishing the demand for package templates and increasing the need for a powerful and flexible Hotel API. In fact, over 80% of our business is generated by partners who have developed their online travel brands using the EAN Hotel API.
No functionality will be available after the decommission date. You have the option of transitioning to the new online hotel booking engine, Chameleon or building your site using our new Hotel API. In the meantime, rest assured disruption to your customers will be minimized. If you have existing customer bookings that are booked and not yet stayed, customers will be able to get support for their reservations via our call centers. They can find the appropriate phone number to call in their confirmation email or when they try to look up their itinerary on the partner site.
The sunset date is set for November 30, 2012 and we are hustling to get all partners off of the platform by this time. Tail partners are to be moved first, with a decommission date of June 30, 2012. Managed Accounts will follow later in the year, with a decommission date of November 30, 2012.
At EAN we are dedicated to delivering market leading travel solutions to our partners, enabling them to provide the best service and travel experiences to their customers. This year was our biggest ever in terms of new technology being delivered to our partners. The new EAN travel platform offers partners a new online hotel booking engine (Chameleon) and a new improved Hotel API. These are the result of significant development investments by EAN and represent unprecedented new opportunities for partners to monetize their online traffic through hotel bookings. Whilst we would like to offer this same level of innovation to all our partners, it’s becoming harder to support WWTE in a way thatupholds our service commitments to partners. So for this reason we have made the decision to transition all partners off the legacy WWTE platform and on to the new EAN travel platform.

Whilst we would like to offer this same level of innovation to all our partners, it’s becoming harder to support other products, like IAN Packages, in a way that upholds our service commitments to partners. So for this reason we have made the decision to transition all partners off the legacy IAN Packages platform. We encourage all Partners using IAN Packages to transition to Chameleon, and remove links to IAN Packages as soon as possible.
